Back Roads to the Triple Nickel
September 23, 2023 @ 8:30 am - September 24, 2023 @ 6:00 pm EDT
Check off another “Bucket List” route. The Triple Nickel road, referred to as Ohio’s Tail of the Dragon, seems as though it was designed specifically for motorcyclists. Enjoy a thrilling ride through some of the most beautiful farm-land and forests that Ohio has to offer. This tour consistently ranks in the top five among motorcycle enthusiasts.
Join your guide, Greg Lewis, on a two day trek as you traverse through the back roads of Maryland, West Virginia and Ohio, and return on the Triple Nickel and Rt 50. You may elect to take a more direct route, avoiding the back roads, and meet the rest of the group in Zanesville.
Below is a synopsis of the route:
– Leave from Sheetz in Martinsburg, Saturday, travel west, negotiate several switchbacks up, down and over 2 mountains, to Paw Paw, WV. Cross over the Potomac into MD. Head west to the “Old Town Toll Bridge,” cross back into WV, staying south of Cumberland. Cross back into MD at Keyser WV, head west to have lunch at the Moonshadow restaurant in Deep Creek (moonshadow145.com).
– Leave Moonshadow to the west for about 10 miles of gravel roads to Bull Run Bridge/Jenkinsburg Bridge (Jenkinsburg Bridge (Bull Run Bridge) – HistoricBridges.org).
- Leave Bull Run area and head direct to Zanesville Ohio. We may need to travel on interstate between Wheeling, WV and Zanesville if we are running behind schedule.
- Overnight in Zanesville. Book your own lodging. Recommend the Baymont by Wyndham Zanesville (expedia.com)
- Breakfast at the hotel Sunday Morning
- KSU at 9:30. Ride the Triple Nickel, Rt 555 south approx. 2 + hrs.
- Lunch at the Boathouse BBQ, Marietta OH (boathousemarietta.com)
