Mountain West MD/WV Camping Weekend: Twisties, Gravel, & Intro to Trails & Beyond Gravel

Focus: GS/ Off Road Capable (All welcome if willing to self-re-route unpassable sections. Buddy system!)
Overnight: Basic Camping on Private Land in Western MD (toilet, shower, bbq, Walmart supplies delivery available) or nearby hotels in Deep Creek Area.
High Level: To DeepCreek Lake area via Rte 50, Wold Den ORV Trail System, Preston Country abandoned county roads routes, Blackwater Falls, DollySods, Return via “Corridor H” Rte 48
Friday:
- 16:30 Meet-Up in Gainesville VA (Optional Pre-Departure Meal)

- 17:15 KSU Depart Gainesville VA
- 66 West to Deltaplane, 17 North to Paris, 50 West Winchester to Skyline
- Note Last Gas: Liberty Ridgeville Junction of 50/220

- 19:45 Arrive CampSite BBQ
- Secluded and scenic club member family land behind Wolf Den State Park Huckleberry Rocks Area near DeerPark, MD. Best GPS reference is 1425 Upperman Rd. Oakland, MD 21550, then one field northwest). Access will be clearly market with ribbons.
- Open field location with limited access to adjacent family home for shower/ bathroom.
- Note: Option to have basic food/ BBQ supplies etc. delivery waiting on arrival to reduce need to carry food on bike ride (isolated location, no significant nearby amenities open late).*
Saturday:
- 09:00 AM – KSU Depart Campsite
- Visit Wolf Den Run State Park ORV (Huckleberry Rocks Area North Hill and Potomac River Areas) Max $10 Fee**. Trails with various levels of difficulty: from flat gravel/rock and open field grass right up to steep loose mud/rock inclines and challenging forest trails for more experienced/comfortable riders. Advanced trails marked in Black are not recommended rather are better suited for experienced riders on ATVs and pure dirt bikes. There are many options intended to suit the curious but unsure (for example those who are generally comfortable on gravel but have not tried much more than that!).
- 11:00 – River Plunge Potomac River Swim Hole Visit
- 12:00 – Lunch at “Coal Bucket” Museum/ Café at Kitzmiller MD.
- 13:00 – KSU Depart Kitzmiller
- Various Routes to Deep Creek Lake Area, Oakland MD
- Note 1st Opportunity for Gas since: Liberty Ridgeville
- Various Routes to Deep Creek Lake Area, Oakland MD
- 13:45 – Swallow Falls State Park (waterfalls) and Oakland MD Museum Mini pitstop visit
- 14:45 – KSU Depart Oakland for WV Abandoned Road Trails Run
- Various Routes to Terra Alta, Hidden Cemetery, Bison Farm
- Various Routes to Rowlesburg WV via Camp Dawson and WV unserviced Calvert Shaver
- RTE 50 to Gormania

- Various Routes to DollySods Wilderness Plateau (South to North Forest Road 75)
- Note Last gas until after DollySods
- Enter near Laneville 19/75, Pass Red Creek Campground & Pass Bear Rocks, Exit at end of 75. Significant loose gravel and scenic overlooks.
- Various Routes to DollySods Wilderness Plateau (South to North Forest Road 75)
- 16:00 – Depart DollySods for Home
- Various Routes 28/7, 42 to Maysville to 48 Corridor H
- 48 East to (briefly) 81North to 66 East
- 18:00 – Approx Expected Return to Gainesville (Optional Closing Meal - TBD)

- *Camping is in mowed field overlooking scenic fields. Optional visit to neighbors “Milk Shack” BYOB garage bar. No food delivery options available here. Nearest restaurants 25 mins drive.
