WV Panhandle/Orchard Loop
March 23 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm EDT
We’ll explore the northernmost portion of the Shenandoah Valley: the WV Panhandle west of Martinsburg and Charles Town. It consists of peach and apple orchards, rolling farmland and mountain ridges. If we’re lucky, we’ll see the peach trees in full blossom, yet still have views at higher elevation not yet obstructed by trees in full leaf.
Our 110 mile loop will start at the picnic area at the Point of Rocks Community Commons, head west then north into the Panhandle before returning through Shepherdstown to Jefferson, Md. There will be gas/rest stops every hour or so, lunch along the way and perhaps an ice cream stop at Nutter’s in Sharpsburg.
The roads on this route will be challenging; expect roller-coaster dips, curves and blind rises, fast sweepers and the occasional hairpin mountain corner. So, make sure bikes (and riders especially) are in good working order and, as always, “ride your own ride”!
There will be an attendance limit of 10 for this ride, assuming that someone will step up to lead a small group from my gpx file. Please direct message the ride host if you can help.
